I’m 39. no kids. no plan to have any. At least you can go outside with the kids or force them to do something YOU enjoy, I’ve been stuck in a windowless manufacturing facility from before dawn untill after sunset for 26 days in a row. I have not seen the sun except on lunch break a month.

I’m somewhere north of 50 days, I think. Granted, there’s a handful of half days in there but it’s still a bit of a blur at this point. Can’t really complain though, it’s fulfilling work.

everything is on-demand, almost everything is personalized, or at least a one-off, lots of fancy automation and computerized heavy lifting, but someone still has to feed and care for the machines and pack and ship the crap they make.

hahaha, half the company worked Thanksgiving day. I managed to wrangle out of it becuase I had to drive to the GF’s family’s place for turkey and wouldn’t be in town. This is the crux of why I’m quitting, upper management has a selective memory about how the holiday rush goes down and refuses to gear up a 2nd(and 3rd) shift ahead of time (despite the REPEATED AND EARLY (JUNE!!!!!!)) warnings of Middle Management (me and my only friend in the company) and then they scramble around like chickens with thier heads cut off in late November when the numbers start to rise trying to find warm bodies on Craigslist, who we don’t have time to train except by interrupting the volcanic production schedule to do so, so we start to fall behind and salaried middle management ends up working 12-16 hour days 7 days a week to wrangle the hapless (why does nobody realize that the workers you get when you are desperate for workers are people desperate for work, and theres usually a REASON for that? especially in this state, where we have 3.2% unemployment? is that such a mystery?) part-timers and seasonals, half of whoom take a week to look at the state of the work load and the harried middle-managers and (rightly) say “fuck this shit!” and stop showing up, necesitating even deeper dredging of the Craigslist and/or upping seasonal pay to the $20/hr+ range, at which point the seasonal help begins making more hr than the middle management who’s pulling ass-tarded hours trying to keep shit together and when we complain to upper management we get various versions of “waffly non-commitment, now shut up and work harder” so, yeah, I spent four years working to make it better, and I *DID* as thanks to my automation and streamlining processes we are more productive than ever, but our volume is up 300% this season over last and upper management didn’t even talk to us about how we would *NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE ALL OBLIGATIONS FOR CHRISTMAS BECUASE WE SIMPLY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH PRINTERS, BINDERS, LASERS* to throughput that volume (I brought that up in a meeting in MARCH!!!!! MARCH FOR FUCK’S SAKE!!!) and which clients/products they wanted us to prioritize and how we were going to deal with CS fires...

so yeah. I tried. now I’m done. I’m hanging around ‘till the first pay period of the new year becuase then my vacation rolls over and I can collect on three weeks paid.

I’ve worked 23 days back to back before.

The thing is, the E.U. directive states you can work that many days or more, but your employer can’t ask you or make you but you can ask or volunteer.

Though I paid a lot of tax, I took home way more than the managers who are salaried. Lol.

We had a massive shop move and spent 23 days doing anything from eight to 13 hours a day. But that was years ago.

I finish 6am tomorrow morning and won’t be back in till 10pm Monday night. I shall not be out of work any later nor back in work any earlier. Lol.
